The Lightweight level is made up of 12 and 13 year olds, 14 year olds who are under 100 pounds, and 11 year old exception players. To learn about the weight requirements for all ages at the Lightweight level, refer to Age and Weight Table.
During the regular season (practices after the first game), the Lightweights practice on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4:45 to 6:45. Just like at all our levels, we expect Lightweights to show up and participate in practice. In return, we will give them a rewarding and positive experience. To gain a full understanding of our practice schedule, both Preseason and In Season, it is highly recommended that all parents read our practice policy. The goal of the Lightweight level is to have the players master the basics of football (blocking and tackling) and, over the course of the season, introduce more complex defensive and offensive formations and concepts, along with more advanced blocking schemes and tackling techniques. By the end of the season, we expect to have all players at a level of skill and knowledge that will allow them to enter high school football with confidence and a leg up on their peers who have yet to play tackle football. We also emphasize providing the players with a positive environment in both practice and games. Finally, we believe their experience at North Side will have them gain an appreciation of team sports. The aspects of team sports that we teach them are discipline, commitment, effort, camaraderie, and respect. We believe that if we maximize the appreciation of the sport, we will also maximize the enjoyment the kids get from playing football.
The Fees for at the Lightweight level are $500. Scholarships are available to anyone in need of financial assistance. In order to learn about our fees and family requirements, click here.
